At the center of the enchanting rolling meadows, dwelt a shepherd boy. His existence was unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was to care for his herd of rams.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the breezes through the single tree on the hilltop were his constant co-dwellers. Day in day, looking out for his charges imbued in him a sense of tranquil contentment.

But, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. During one such occasion from sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plan.

Tales of predators hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One day he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my check here sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but saw no wolf.

The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This trick continued for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the results of false alarms.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is difficult to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
